FAQ

Plain answers on domain names

Renewals, privacy, transfers and how quickly you are up and running.

Does the figure rise at renewal?

No — and you can verify that yourself, because both numbers are in the table above before you order. The renewal column is exactly what you are billed from year two on. A few endings, .xyz among them, run a discounted first year; where that applies, plan around the standard renewal printed beside it. Nothing is waiting to appear on a later invoice.

Is WHOIS privacy genuinely free?

Entirely. It switches on for any name whose registry allows it — which covers most gTLDs, .com, .net and .org among them. Shielded placeholders stand in for your real name, address, email and telephone number in the public record, and that alone removes much of the spam and cold-calling that follows domain owners about. The exceptions are a small set of country-code endings whose registries forbid privacy.

Is the ICANN fee inside these prices?

Yes. Generic endings carry a mandatory ICANN fee — currently about $0.18 a year — and it is already inside the registration and renewal figures shown here. Checkout adds nothing further.

Can I bring a name in from another registrar?

Usually, yes. Unlock the name at its current registrar, ask for the EPP auth code, then start the move on our transfer page. A standard gTLD transfer adds a full year of registration on top, charged at the ordinary renewal rate. Under ICANN rules the name must be at least 60 days old and cannot have changed registrar in the past 60 days.

How soon can the name actually be used?

Registration completes almost immediately. Point the name at your hosting and DNS changes usually spread within minutes, reaching everywhere inside a few hours. If we host the site, a free SSL certificate is issued and installed the moment the name resolves — nothing asked of you.

Do I need hosting, or can I take the name alone?

The name stands on its own — register it and point it wherever you like. Pair it with our entry plan and you get one dashboard, one invoice, the SSL handled for you and a live site within minutes.

More on domain names

  • Bring a name across

Bring across a name you already hold without giving up the registration time on it. DNS keeps answering throughout.

  • See the whole price table

Every ending we register, with the renewal figure printed beside the first-year price.

  • .pk names, straight from PKNIC

Our usual registrars cannot supply .pk, so we register it directly with the Pakistani registry.

Names start at $2.99, with next year's price printed beside it. That second number, the one most registrars bury, is what really decides the cost of a name. Underneath it is NVMe storage, LiteSpeed caching and a 99.9% uptime commitment written into the SLA rather than the brochure.

Meant for anybody claiming their own corner of the web. Every plan includes a free certificate, a free migration, nightly backups and 30 days in which to change your mind on any hosting purchase.

Renewal pricing shown before you buy

Search, register and manage it all in one place: DNS records you edit yourself, transfer locks, auto-renew you can switch off, and WHOIS privacy free wherever the ending allows it. Point a name at hosting here in a click, or at somebody else's servers; the name is yours either way.

Speed is engineered in rather than bolted on with a plugin: NVMe arrays keep reads immediate, LiteSpeed answers over HTTP/2, and the server caches before your application does anything at all.

Year two, priced in advance

The oldest move in hosting is a cheap first year and a quiet rise at renewal. Hosting & Domains works the other way about: the number you join at is the number that renews, and anything promotional is flagged on the page before you pay. A registration is the one purchase nobody can undo, since the registry takes the name the instant the order lands, so check the spelling and read the renewal figure printed beside the first-year price.

First-year bargains are everywhere and quiet third-year rises even more so. Here the renewal figure sits next to the registration figure on every ending, so the arithmetic happens before the order rather than after it.

What a domain registered here includes

DNS for your names is answered by redundant nameservers in our London datacentre, resolving quickly wherever the reader happens to be. Registry transfers, locks and contact updates all run from the same panel as the hosting.

Support runs every hour of the day, staffed by the people who administer these servers, with a first reply aimed at 2 hours and 1 hour when a site is down. No tier hands you to a bot.

  • First-year and renewal prices side by side
  • WHOIS privacy free where extensions allow
  • Daily backups you restore yourself, in one click
  • SSL issued free and auto-renewed

Still Curious

Questions that keep coming up

Am I free to move my domain elsewhere later?

Entirely, and without argument. Unlock the name in the panel, ask for the auth code, and it appears at once. Registry rules do freeze transfers for 60 days after a registration or a previous move, but that clock belongs to the registry rather than to us.

How long until everything is running?

The account provisions itself at checkout, so minutes rather than days. If an existing domain needs bringing over, our migration team usually finishes inside 24 hours and times the cutover so nothing goes offline.

Does the price move at renewal?

The same rate and the same amount. There is no introductory price here that quietly doubles once you have settled in.

Can a domain registration be refunded?

No registrar can, because the registry takes the name the moment an order completes; this is an industry rule rather than ours. Check the spelling twice before confirming. The renewal figure sits beside the first-year price, so at least year two holds no surprises.
